Job to Job

Starting up on my journey into being a freelance film-maker / photographer I have noticed that this is the most popular way of working throughout the media industry. I feel as if to express creativity the you need to be free of the boundaries and limitations that come with working for a large corporate company. Obviously there are pros and cons for both sides of the industry. Working freelance can sometimes be as much of a chore as it can be a pleasure. So for this blog I am going to list a few pros and cons of being freelance in the media industry.

You get to be your own boss.

The money is better.

You get to work on a variety of projects.

You get to work from anywhere.

You do less of what you really like doing.

You have to manage yourself.

You have a lack of security.

You don’t own your work.

Deciding to go freelance is a big decision when starting out in the media industry. Often financial implications can persuade you towards the 'secure' option of having a set job, however once you start freelancing the work often does seem to pick up and you'll find a much more comfortable position than when you initially did. You need to go into freelancing with your eyes open, aware that it’s not the paradise some claim it to be, there will be hard times but a true freelancer will fight for their creative freedoms and pursue the dream.
